How to Manage and Change BitLocker Encrypted Drive Password

What is BitLocker?

Bitlocker is a full-disk and partial encryption feature built into Microsoft Windows operating systems. It is designed to protect data on users computer or removable USB drive by encrypting the entire storage volume, including the operating system, user files, and system files. It adds an extra layer of security by requiring a password, PIN, or smart card for decryption.

How to Change BitLocker Encrypted Drive Password

Step 1: Unlock Drive

Go to “This PC” and unlock BitLocker encrypted drive with the help of password or BitLocker backup key. See the below-mentioned image

Note: If users forget their encrypted drive password, take help from the BLR BitLocker recovery tool, which helps user to find their BitLocker key, that is saved on their PC or any external drive.

Step 2: Manage BitLocker

Right click, select manage BitLocker or change password.

Note: Here user can change their BitLocker password as well as disable BitLocker encryption.

Manage BitLocker offer several options

Turning BitLocker on or off: Enabling or disabling encryption for specific drives.

Changing BitLocker settings: Modifying encryption options like password, PIN, or smart card requirements.

Backup recovery key: Creating a backup of the key needed to unlock the drive in case of password loss.

Change Windows BitLocker Password With CMD

Is there any way to change the BitLocker password using CMD? Just follow the instructions below.

Step 1. Type cmd in the Windows search box. After that, right-click Command Prompt from the best match result, then select Run as administrator from the context menu.

Step 2. In the command line window, input manage-bde -changepassword X: and press Enter. User needs to replace the X value with the real drive letter of their drive, “D Drive.

Step 4. Wait for a few seconds. Once the Type the new password prompt appears, type the new password and press Enter. See the below-mentioned image
